In the wrist, bones and ligaments form a "tunnel" in which nerves pass through to the hand. If this "tunnel" becomes inflamed, pressue is placed on the nerves. Wth carpal tunnel syndrome, a nerve in the wrist has pressure placed on it and can result in tingling, numbness, or pain. Some causes of carpal tunnel syndrome include improper or prolonged use of the hand or wrist during activities such as typing, needlework, and working with vibrating tools (such as a drill).
